THE TOWN OF
THERMOPOLIS was founded in 1897 and is
located in the southern most point of the Big
Horn Basin of Wyoming.
THERMOPOLIS is an important
recreational and tourism community with such
attractions as the Downtown National Historic
District, the Hot Springs State Park, Wind River
Canyon and Boysen Reservoir.

THERMOPOLIS has
a population of approximately 3000 people, and is
the county seat of Hot Springs County, which has
a total population of about 4800.
THERMOPOLIS is especially
known for the Hot Springs State Park, which is
visited by around 900,000 tourists each year.
There are many recreational choices for the local
residents as well as for those people traveling
to the area. The highlight is the "World's
Largest Mineral Hot Spring" located in the
Hot Springs State Park. People can enjoy swimming
in a variety of indoor and outdoor hot mineral
pools. Many people travel here year after year to
take the mineral baths.
BUFFALO roam freely in
designated areas around the park. Round Top
Mountain is a local landmark.
WIND RIVER CANYON and
Boysen State Park are located south of
Thermopolis. the reservoir is an excellent
recreation area. World class fishing is available
as well as hunting of waterfowl, antelope, deer,
elk, bear, big horn sheep, moose and upland fowl.
THERMOPOLIS has a wonderful
9-hole golf course as well as tennis courts,
baseball fields, basketball courts, soccer
fields, rodeo arena and fairgrounds.
THERMOPOLIS is home of the
Hot Springs County Museum which has been reviewed
as one of the very best in the area. There are
many exquisite exhibits of all types depicting
life in the west. The museum is open year around.
The Wyoming Dinosaur Center opened July 1995.
HOT SPRINGS COUNTY has an
excellent school system, hospital, Senior Citizen
Center, hotels, motels, RV parks, day care
facilities, library, nursing homes, including the
Pioneer Home located in the State Park. The
Gottsche Center is a wonderful rehabilitation and
therapy facility.
THERE is no state or local
personal income tax, no state or local corporate
tax and no state or local inventory tax.
THERE are several churches
available. Thermopolis has one weekly newspaper,
radio station, cable TV, and post office. An
airport serves Thermopolis with charter flights
available.
THERMOPOLIS is known
throughout Wyoming as one of the most desirable
towns in which to live.
